Dennis Blair served as the "Intelligence Czar" in the Obama Administration, as Director of National Intelligence.[1] A retired four-star admiral, he was appointed Directory of National Intelligence in January 2009, and he reports to President Obama. Blair is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in 1968; he's a sixth-generation naval officer. As the Intelligence Czar, Blair has pledged to end the use of enhanced interrogation techniques and work closely with the FBI.

Blair announced his resignation in May 2010 after a series of intelligence failures—in the Fort Hood shooting, the failed Christmas Day bombing plot and the attempted Times Square bombing.[2]

Experience

Dennis Blair held a number of prestigious Washington posts, including the Pentagon’s top liaison to the Central Intelligence Agency and director of the Joint Staff. He held several commands in the War on Terror, and his awards include Defense Distinguished Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters (4 awards), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal.

Blair ran the non-profit Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), which focuses primarily on issues related to national security, and he also does a lot of work for the Defense Department.[1]
