Diane Arbus (1923 - 1971) was an American photographer. She worked primarily in black and white, and is known for her somewhat disturbing photographs of dwarfs. giants, transvestites, circus performers, mentally handicapped people, and twins. She suffered from depression most of her life, and died as a result of suicide. Arbus was said to admire the work of Weegee (Arthur Fellig) and Richard Avedon, though her own photographic style was markedly different. Arbus had two daughters: Doon and Amy.
