Donald Henry Rumsfeld (b. July 9, 1932) was the Secretary of Defense under President Gerald Ford from 1975–1977, and President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2006, succeeding William J. Cohen. He resigned in 2006 after Democratic criticism over his handling of the War in Iraq.

He also served four terms in the House of Representatives representing an Illinois district, and as the US ambassador to NATO. Rumsfeld is also a Navy veteran, having served three as an aviator and flight instructor. He achieved the rank of Captain.
