The Donetsk People's Republic is a self-proclaimed independent republic in the former Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. Until May 2015 the state formed a union together with the Lugansk People's Republic, called Novorossiya or New Russia. After the declaration of independence was adopted in April 2014, the Ukrainian government started a big offensive.
