The Donetsk People's Republic is a self-proclaimed republic in the Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Until May 2015 the state formed a union together with the Lugansk People's Republic, called Novorossiya. After the declaration of independence was adopted in April 2014, the Ukrainian government started a big offensive. On May 11, 2014 referendums were held, with a majority voting for the region's sovereignty.[1]
The country is ruled by the party "Donetsk Republic", that was founded in 2005 and banned in 2007. Since 2014 it is active again. According to liberal Wikipedia the "Donetsk Republic" is "anti-protestant" and "soviet nationalist".[2]
