Draining the swamp is a political term referring to the reduction and eventual elimination of the federal government's corruption and inefficiency. The D.C. swamp is inhabited by swamp rats. Although used by several other political figures before, the term was popularized by Donald Trump in his 2016 Presidential Campaign.
