Edwin McMasters Stanton was the 26th Attorney General of the United States from 1860-1861, and the 27th Secretary of War from 1862 to 1868. Possibly his most famous accomplishment is taking control of the government after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and hunting down those responsible.
