Elia Kazan was a movie director and producer who became despised by Leftists for outing communists in Hollywood.
He was a close friend of playwright Tennessee Williams and became famous for directing his plays in the theater. Kazan's brilliant adaptation of Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) made Marlon Brando a famous actor and lands at #47 on the list of the top 100 films of all time.[1] It remains one of the most famous films set in The South.
