Ephesus was one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire. It was situated on the west coast of Anatolia, near the modern Turkish city of Selcuk.

Today, large remnants of the city have been partially restored, and it is now one of the most impressive examples of a complete Roman town centre to be seen.

Ephesus is also notable as the place where Saint Paul confronted the worshippers of Artemis.
