Here are some benefits to learning and adhering to conservatism:

  1. it recognizes that ideas, and particularly political ideas, do have serious personal consequences
  2. it recognizes that politics and culture are adversarial and often deceitful, enabling better handling of it
  3. it allows one to think and speak freely without distortion by political correctness
  4. it enables one to rise above his personal likes and dislikes
  5. it recognizes and emphasizes the importance of self-defense, both personally and as a nation
  6. it encourages a frugality that doesn't waste other people's money ... or one's own
  7. it encourages self-restraint that is invaluable in combating addiction, temptation, and obesity
  8. it encourages self-sufficiency and self-help rather than dependency
  9. it allows one to recognize liberal bias in politics and the media
  10. it is helpful in resisting liberal schemes and addictions
  11. it cuts across all religions and cultures
  12. it enables one to recognize impostors more easily
  13. it combines logic and faith to yield insights
  14. it gives insights in raising and educating the next generation
