Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is the dominant Catholic religious television and radio network in the United States. EWTN claims to be the largest religious media network in the world.

Founded by Mother Angelica in the early 1980s, it is headquartered in Irondale, Alabama.

The network is operated by a Franciscan order but is solely supported by viewer and listener donations primarily via pilgrimage to it's locations in Alabama including the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hancevill, AL also founded by Mother Angelica. The network does not receive funding from the Catholic Church or any of its orders, nor any of its media partners; it also does not sell commercial advertising.

In addition to its broadcasts it owns the National Catholic Register (which it purchased in 2011) along with the Catholic News Agency.

Programming

EWTN's programming consists of shows of many different genres, such as talk shows, documentaries, newscasts, music, documentaries, and live broadcasts from the Vatican. Every day, there is a Mass broadcast live from Irondale Church and Monastery.

In 2016 the network released a documentary about Marxist community organizer, author and activist Saul Alinsky titled A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.[1][2][3]

Washington, D.C. Bureau

Since the network opened its Washington, D.C. bureau in 2013 it has produced EWTN News Nightly, a nightly 30-minute evening newscast recapping the latest news in national and international politics as well as the Vatican. The newscast, which airs Monday to Friday, features dedicated coverage of American politics through correspondents assigned to Capitol Hill and The White House, as well as updates from Rome through a correspondent assigned to its Rome bureau.

Since its opening, the Washington bureau has added the production of three additional programs including The World Over which had previously been produced at the network headquarters in Alabama, as well as new programs such as EWTN Pro Life Weekly and EWTN News In-Depth. The World Over has been produced for over 25 years and hosted by Raymond Arroyo who also makes regular appearances on Fox News. EWTN Pro Life Weekly focuses on various issues within the pro-life movement, primarily abortion but also euthanasia, the death penalty and others underneath the same umbrella. EWTN News In-Depth, the most recent addition, is a one-hour weekly program that allows for longer form coverage of current events and news stories akin to the format of 60 Minutes on CBS.
