The Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (sometimes referred to as the Independent Counsel Act) is legislation passed in the wake of the Watergate scandal which creates mandatory public financial disclosures for politicians and their families. It also authorizes the creation of the United States Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel.
