He is a member of the Democratic Party. Bayh was frequently mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2008 Presidential Election. However, on December 15, 2006, he announced he would not run for President, and went on to endorse Senator Hillary Clinton, making him a leading candidate for Vice President.
