Chapter 1

14	And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.	And he said, "Who made you a prince and judge over us? Do you intend to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?" And Moses was afraid, thinking, "My deed is surely known."
15	Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well. 14	And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.	And the Lord grew angry at Moses, saying, "The Levite Aaron is your brother, I know that he can speak well. He will come forth to meet you and you see him, he will rejoice.
15	And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.	You will speak to him, and tell him what to say, and I will be with both of you as you speak, and will teach you what to do.
16	And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.	He will be your spokesman to the people, almost as your mouth, and you pass to him My words.
17	And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.	Take this staff in your hands, with which you shall do miracles."
18	And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.	So Moses returned to his father in law Jethro, and said to him, "I implore you to let me leave, and return to my people in Egypt, and see if they are still alive." 23	And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.	I say to you, 'Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if your refuse to let him go, I will kill your son, including your firstborn.'
24	And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
25	Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26	So he let him go then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27	And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28	And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

30	And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31	And the people believed and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

And they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us: let us go, we beg you, three days' journey into the desert, and make sacrifices to the Lord our God, lest he fall upon us with disease or war."
4	And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.	But the king of Egypt said, "Moses and Aaron, why have you allowed your people to stop working? Get to your work!"
5	And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.	The Pharaoh said, "There are many Hebrews, and you are letting them rest."
6	And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,	So that same day, the Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the Hebrews,
7	Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore let them go and gather straw for themselves.	"Don't give them any more straw to make bricks with. Let them get it themselves!
8	And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.	But they still have to make as many bricks as they used to. If they have a moment's rest, they'll use it to beg, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.'
9	Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.	So make them work more, and keep them busy, so they won't think of such things."
10	And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.	And so the taskmasters went out, and told the people, "The Pharaoh has told us not to give you any more straw.
11	Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.	So go, get the straw yourself, we don't care from where, but don't make any less bricks than you used to."
12	So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.	So the people went all around Egypt to gather stuff to use as straw.
13	And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfill your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.	And their taskmasters commanded them, saying, "Do your work every day, just like you used to when there was straw."
14	And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?	The leaders of the Hebrews, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had appointed, were beaten, and asked, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quotas in making bricks today and yesterday, like you have before?"
15	Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?	Then the leaders of the children of Israel asked of Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you treat your servants in this way?
16	There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.	You give no straw to us, your slaves, and tell us, 'Make bricks,' but then beat us - but the fault lies with your people, not ours!"
17	But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.	But he said, "You are lazy, which is why you ask for leave, saying, 'Let us go and do sacrifice to the Lord.'
18	Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.	So get to work - we won't give you any straw, but you shall meet your required number of bricks."
19	And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. 21	And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.	They said to them, "The Lord will judge you, because you have us smelly to Pharaoh and made him give swords to his lieutenants to kill us with."
22	And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?	So Moses went back to the Lord and said, "Lord, why have you treated your people so poorly? Why have you sent me?
23	For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.	Ever since I've come here to Pharaoh, to speak for you, he has just done cruel things to these people, and hasn't let us go."
