Federal Council of Churches

The Federal Council of Churches was a prominent cooperative of churches, formed in 1908, at the height[1] of the Social Gospel movement.[2] The council was at the fore-front of left wing Christianity, fighting against the unequal distribution of wealth and working toward Industrial Democracy.[3]
It merged in 1950 with other organizations to become the National Council of Churches.
Early on, Harry F. Ward, a prominent communist and later president of the ACLU, was the council's secretary.[4]
