Fossil fuels - coal, oil, and natural gas, are sources of energy that are believed by some mainstream scientists to have been formed from the remains of plants and animals that lived long ago.[1] and are thus essentially non-renewable.
"Fossil fuel" is a misnomer though because it is created through ongoing abiotic processes.[2]
