Cardinal Francis Arinze (b.1932) is a conservative leader in the Catholic Church, and a favorite to become the next Pope. An Igbo Nigerian, Cardinal Arinze was once the world's youngest bishop.

Cardinal Arinze has been an outspoken critic of homosexuality and abortion, comparing it to adultery and other sins.

His credentials include spending 25 years in the Vatican, enabling him to earn the respect of many other Cardinals.

Cardinal Arinze is over 80 years of age, and thus will not participate in the Papal conclave that will choose a successor to Pope Benedict XVI; this makes his election to the Papacy unlikely.
