'''Gary Faye Locke''' is a [[Chinese]]-[[American]] politician who served as [[Governor]] of [[Washington]] from 1997 to 2005, and was succeeded by [[Christine Gregoire]]. He is the former [[United States Secretary of Commerce]]. To this day, he remains the only Chinese-American to serve as a [[United States]] governor.

Throughout much of his career, Locke was considered a possible [[Vice President of the United States|Vice Presidential]] candidate by the Democratic Party.

In 2003, after rebutting President [[George W. Bush]]'s 2003 [[State of the Union]] address, Locke is said to have received hundreds of threats in letter and e-mail form, with several threatening the safety of Locke's children. This is said to have contributed to his decision to leave office. 

In 2008, Locke was considered a forerunner for the position of [[Secretary of the Interior]] in the [[Barack Hussein Obama|Obama]] administration. Eventually, however, Ken Salazar was chosen for that position.

Locke was sworn in as Secretary of Commerce on March 26, 2009.

Locke currently serves as the United States Ambassador to [[China]].
