George Obama
George Hussein Onyango Obama (b. 1982) is the youngest of Barack Obama's half-brothers. Born to Barack Obama, Sr. and his partner, mother Jael. Jael resides in the United States. [1] They have five other half brothers (Roy (now known as Abong'o), Bernard, Abo, Mark and David) and a half sister (Auma). George never knew his father Barack Hussein Obama Sr., who died in a 1982 car accident six months after he was born.
"No-one knows who I am," he told the magazine (Italy's Vanity Fair), before claiming: "I live here (Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya) on less than a dollar a month." In a Times of the UK article, George says "They say I live on a dollar a month, but this is all lies by people who don’t want my brother to win.” The article purposely fails to disclose his yearly wage. [1]
During his 1987 visit to Kenya, Barack Obama met with him:
"I took comfort in the fact that perhaps one day, when he was older, George, too, might want to know who his father had been, and who his brothers and sisters were, and that if he ever came to me I would be there for him, to tell him the story I knew," Obama wrote in Dreams From My Father. [2]
Family quote
Asked by Harry Smith from CBS about Obama leaving the campaign to visit his ailing grandmother, Obama replied, "Yeah, well, the -- I think most people understand that if you're not caring for your family, then you're probably not the kind of person who's going to be caring for other people." [3] No mention of his younger brother George.
