Georges St. Pierre, a Quebec-native, is considered to be one of the finest mixed martial artists at the 170 pound weight class. He is also viewed by most commentators and opponents alike as one of the classiest fighters in the sport. Top MMA site Sherdog places him as Number 2 on their best pound-for-pound fighters list.[1]

Fight History

Known to be freakishly strong and athletic, he won the UFC welterweight belt from Matt Hughes in April 2006 only to lose it in a surprising upset in November 2006 to Matt Serra. He defeated Hughes a second time in a dominating performance on December 29, 2007 and won the interim UFC Welterweight Championship. He had a rematch with Matt Serra on April 29, 2008 to become the undisputed UFC welterweight champion. St. Pierre has since defended his title against Jon Fitch and BJ Penn.

A relatively shy person, St-Pierre does not consider himself to be a fighter at heart. He thinks there are some things that are more important than fighting that mean more in life.
“Who do I most admire? I admire Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa; I want to be more like these people than a fighter.”[2]
