Gideons spread the Word of God by placing or distributing copies of the King James Bible or English Standard Version in hotel rooms and institutions (including hospitals, schools, military bases, homeless shelters, and correctional facilities). The organization was started by two traveling salesmen in Wisconsin who were Christian and shared a hotel room, and the organization is currently headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gideons first started putting Bibles in hotel rooms in 1908, and since that time have placed 1,400,000,000 (1.4 billion) of them.[1]
