Gordon Stein (April 30, 1941–August 27, 1996) was an American author, physiologist, atheist activists.
Stein served as presidents of the American Rationalists Federation and the Freethought Association.[1] He also served as Vice-President of Atheists United and Vice-President Pacific of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.[2]
Stein was also a member of the board of directors of the North American Committee For Humanism.[3]
He was an editor of the American Rationalist and was the librarian of the Center for Inquiry, which contains both the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) and the Council for Secular Humanism (CSH).[4] Stein also served as an editor of the Encyclopedia of the Paranormal (1996).[5] In addition, he was an associate editor of Free Inquiry Magazine.[6]

In 1985, Greg Bahnsen and Gordon Stein had a debate at the University of California, Irvine regarding the positions of atheism and theism.
John Frame wrote regarding the debate in which Dr. Bahnsen used the transcendental argument for the existence of God that "In the end, Stein walked and talked like a broken man."[7]
The Greg Bahnsen-Gordon Stein debate was recorded and transcribed and was dubbed "The Great Debate".[8][9] See also: Greg Bahnsen and debate
Education
Stein received a doctorate in physiology from Ohio State University and master's degrees in Management and Library Science from University of Rochester, Adelphi College, and the University of California at Los Angeles.[10]
