The Great Sedition Trial took place between April and November 1944, and was a Justice Department mass indictment which accused 30 defendants of conspiring to Nazify the United States. The charges were made under the Smith Act of 1940. A mistrial was declared when U.S. District Judge Edward Clayton Eicher, presiding, died of a heart attack.
