Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland. It is located on the Gulf of Finland.

It has a population of over 500,000, and combined with the neigbouring municipalities of Porvoo, Kirkkonummi and Sipoo, the population exceeds 800 000. In addition to being the centre of administration, the main industries in the area include refining, mining and plastics industry. The city itself is becoming increasingly popular with the tourists. The main sights include the Näsinneula observation tower, the historic castle and the neo-gothic catholic cathedral. The lord mayor of Helsinki is currently the conservative Pekka Sauri.
