Ieper (English: Ypres) is a city in the Belgian province of West Flanders, Belgium along the small River Ieperlee. Together with Ghent and Bruges it virtually controlled Flanders in the 13th century. The city was totally destroyed during World War I and rebuild afterwards. The Menenpoort (English: Menin Gate) is a memorial where the Last Post is sounded every evening for the fallen soldiers during that war and around the city there are many war cemeteries.[1]
