The Indian Pacific is a train that runs east-west across Australia between Perth, on the Indian Ocean and Sydney, on the Pacific Ocean.
The 4,352-kilometre (2,704-mile) journey takes nearly three days, and operates twice per week in each direction.[1] It traverses the Nullabor Plain, and crosses the Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney. The Nullabor Plain section includes the longest straight section of railway line in the world—478 kilometres[2] (297 miles).
The Indian Pacific is currently operated by Great Southern Railways, a private company that operates some services formerly operated by the former government-owned railway, Australian National.
