Rowling is firmly liberal in her politics, and despite being from the UK, has supported both Hillary Clinton and Obama, stating "I want a Democrat in the White House. And it seems a pity that Clinton and Obama are rivals because both are extraordinary." Her books were written while she was a divorced single mother, living on welfare benefits provided by the government, while she worked the minimum necessary to maintain her benefits. Rowling also worked for the Pro-Choice, Pro-Gay, Anti-Israel Human "Rights" organization Amnesty International, and donated 1 million pounds (1.6 million dollars) to the No campaign when Scotland was thinking about leaving the UK. Being staunchly pro-abortion, she has attacked U.S. President Donald Trump for reinstating a ban on giving American taxpayer money to international groups that perform abortions. In spite of these things, however, she does oppose transgenderism, according to her tweets.
