Jabir ibn Hayyan (c. 721 – c. 815) was a famous alchemist, living in Persia. He is credited with numerous discoveries, so of sulfuric, hydrochloric and nitric acids, and of the elements arsenic, antimony and bismuth. He developed many alchemical instruments, which are still in use in laboratories today - so for instance the retort.
