Jack Layton

John Gilbert "Jack" Layton (born July 18, 1950) is a social democrat and current leader of Canada's New Democratic Party.

In 2006, he called for the return of Canadian troops from Afghanistan. In January 2007, Jack Layton called for a federal ban on ATM fees. In 2008 after the Conservatives when re-elected to a minority government. Layton was active in an attempt with Stephane Dion and Gilles Ducceppe to force the creation of a unpopular coalition government with the Liberal and Bloc parties. However in end the this attempt was unsuccessful.
