Jack Matlock Jr. (b. 1929) was a career diplomat who served during Cold War I and was U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union when the Cold War ended. After retiring from the Foreign Service, he focused on understanding how the Cold War ended and how the lessons from that experience might be applied to public policy in the 21st century.
