Jacksonville is the most populous city in the state of Florida and the thirteenth most populous city in the United States. It is the county seat of Duval County. Jacksonville is also the largest city by area in the state of Florida, having (substantially) merged with Duval County in 1968 (the municipalities of Atlantic Beach, Baldwin, Jacksonville Beach, and Neptune Beach did not consolidate fully and retain their independence, but also have representation on the Jacksonville City Council which serves as the elected city-county council).

The city has one major level professional sports team: the Jacksonville Jaguars. In addition, wrestling promotions All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor Wrestling (owned by the son of the Jaguars' owner) are based in Jacksonville.
