Jan Peter Balkenende (May 7, 1956, in Biezelingen) was the leader of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), a Christian democratic party, and Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 22 July 2002 until 14 October 2010.

Balkenende led four cabinets with multiple coalition partners.

Balkenende and his governments supported the Iraq War and participated in the Afghanistan War. Only his last coalition partner, the Labor Party, did not support the war efforts.
