'''Jeremy Irons''' is an [[English]] film and stage [[actor]].  He was born in Cowes, England in 1948 and was educated at Sherborne School in Dorset.  On leaving school he trained as an actor.

He became famous in 1981 for his role in the film ''The French Lieutenant's Woman'', also starring [[Meryl Streep]].  In 1990 he won an [[Academy Award]] for best actor in the film ''Reversal of Fortune''.  Irons has praised the [[Catholic Church]] saying, "I love its intransigence".
