Joe Biden in 2013.

Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden, Jr. (born November 20, 1942) is turning 80 in November 2022. He will be 82 years old by the end of the first term of his presidency, the oldest yet of any sitting U.S. president. Biden hasn't disclosed his medical history since 2008, when physicians found he had an irregular heartbeat.[1] Biden has long been troubled by health issues.[2][3] Biden has promised to release his medical records in the next several months.[4] (See also: Biden's age)

Biden apparently suffers from a form of dementia[5] with symptoms like forgetting how many grandchildren he has,[6] thinking that he is running for the Senate, not the US presidency,[7] forgetting that he is running against President Trump, not George Bush,[8] getting his wife confused with his sister,[9] forgetting where he is,[10] and loss of bowel control.[11] Critics of Biden have derided what they describe as clownish and buffoonish behavior by him in the public eye over the years[12] and have attributed that behavior, which likely predates his selection by Barack Obama to be his running mate, to his advancing senility and dementia.[13] Despite all of these symptoms, many Democrats deny Biden's erratic behavior and are content with someone mentally unfit to be President of the United States,[14] while more aggressive apologists make excuses and attack critics by accusing them of "ageism" and "ignorance".[13] He has been referred to as "the American Brezhnev."[15]

According to the British Medical Journal, "The brain’s capacity for memory, reasoning and comprehension skills (cognitive function) can start to deteriorate from age 45, finds research published on bmj.com today."[16]

Politico notes:

The New York Times, the Washington Post, Politico, CNN, the Atlantic, the Associated Press, Slate and just about every other.. outlet you can name has crossed the ageism line to ask the “too old” question in recent articles about Joe Biden, age 76, often in the headline itself.

...after tallying Biden’s repeated stumbles, miscues and mental lapses, journalists tend to retreat from calling Biden too infirm to run the White House. The greater press taboo, it seems, isn’t asking the question about Biden but answering it.[17]

Matthew Walther, a national correspondent for The Week, wrote about Biden's age:

These days, Biden is confused about everything and everyone virtually all the time... He routinely says things that are absolute gibberish... These are not ordinary slips of the tongue. They are signs of cognitive decline that will be familiar to anyone who, like me, spends a good deal of time in the company of people who are roughly Biden's age."[18]

The columnist Michael Goodwin wrote about Biden's performance during the Democrats’ third presidential primary debate: "Nearly all his efforts to make a point were swamped by a sudden change of direction mid-sentence, and then another change a few words later as a random thought popped into his head and out his mouth. None of his rivals needed to interrupt him — he did it to himself."[19]

After Biden's poor performance in Iowa, a Democratic county chair told The New York Times, "He’s pressing against Father Time, who is a very tough competitor."[20]

Joe Biden's frequent ice cream and junk food consumption, ultra-processed food and cognitive decline

Joe Biden is well-known for eating ice cream frequently. For example, The Daily Beast published an article entitled Ice Cream-Loving Joe Biden Forced to Get an Unscheduled Root Canal.[21]

Joe Biden is well-known for eating ice cream frequently. For example, The Daily Beast published an article entitled Ice Cream-Loving Joe Biden Forced to Get an Unscheduled Root Canal.[22]

The Daily Mail noted in 2023:

There's a food fight taking place at the White House, according to a new report on Monday, that's pitting Joe Biden's love of junk food against Jill Biden's quest to get him to eat more healthy.

The president is a known lover of ice cream, enjoying the sweet treat every chance he can get. He's also been known to indulge when he's outside of the White House - he had barbecue delivered to Air Force One when he was in Kansas City in December 2021 and ate pizza with the troops when he was in Poland in March 2022.[23]

According to Fortune magazine: "According to a new study, which was published Monday in JAMA Neurology, eating ultra-processed foods, such as ice cream, hot dogs, and french fries, for more than 20% of your caloric intake could lead to cognitive decline, especially with regards to memory and executive function–the part of the brain that helps us plan, focus, and make decisions."[24]

According to numerous peer-reviewed medical science journals, ultra-processed food (often called merely processed food by laymen and others) poses numerous, serious health risks.[25] PubMed has over 1,800 medical journal articles related to the health risks of ultra-processed/processed food.[26] See: Consumption of ultra-processed foods and health risks

Donald Trump (born on June 14, 1946) is 78 years old (see: Donald Trump's age).

President Donald Trump has called Joe Biden "sleepy" and said that "he looks different than he used to, he acts different than he used to, he’s even slower than he used to be".[28]

The New York Times stated:

Meeting with a group of union officials in the West Wing this year, the president appealed for their support in part by tapping on his head and saying, “Biden is losing it,” according to a participant in the meeting who disclosed the president’s comment on condition of anonymity.[29]
CNN's Chris Cuomo recently declared that President Donald Trump isn't aging as fast as past U.S. presidents.[30]

Cenk Uyger on Joe Biden's mental decline

The progressive Cenk Uygur, who is a supporter of Bernie Sanders, is angry that the mainstream press doesn't point out Biden's mental decline and does not call out Biden's lies (Joe Biden lying about being arrested with Nelson Mandela, etc.).[31]

Cenk Uyger says Biden is not going to win against Trump due to his mental decline and due to his lies being called out by the political right.[32]

Joe Biden, grief and cognitive decline

A study indicated that individuals with prolonged grief syndrome showed a decrease in global cognitive function over time compared to a control group.[33]

Joe Biden's life has been greatly shaped by grief and he indicated that he has "wounds that don't ever really heal".[34][35][36]

The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry in a journal article entitled Prolonged Grief and Cognitive Decline: A Prospective Population-Based Study in Middle-Aged and Older Persons indicated that individuals with prolonged grief disorder (PGD) compared with a reference group "showed a decrease in global cognitive function".[37] See: Prolonged grief disorder and cognitive decline

Medical journal: Unresolved/prolonged grief and cognitive decline

See also: Prolonged grief disorder and cognitive decline

Bereavement can result in unresolved/prolonged grief, which is often called prolonged grief disorder (PGD).[38]

The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry in a journal article entitled Prolonged Grief and Cognitive Decline: A Prospective Population-Based Study in Middle-Aged and Older Persons

Compared with the reference group, participants with PGD showed a decrease in global cognitive function, MMSE scores, and World learning test (immediate and delayed) over time. Participants with normal grief did not show a stronger cognitive decline in any of cognitive tests than the reference group.[39]

Cognitive decline

This really happened in August 2020, verbatim:

Interviewer: Have you taken a cognitive....

Biden: No I haven't taken the test. Why the hell would I take a test? C'mon, man....That's like saying you, you know, before you got in this program if you take a test were you're taking cocaine or not. What do you think? Huh? Are you a junkie? (laughs)
Interviewer: What do you say to President Trump who brags about his test and makes your mental state an issue for voters?

Biden: (laughs) Well, if he can't figure out the difference between an elephant and a lion, I don't know what the hell he's talking about. Did you watch that? Look, c'mon, man....I know you're trying to goad me. But I mean, I'm so forward-looking to have an opportunity to sit with the President, or stand with the President, and debates. There can be plenty of time. And by the way, as I joke with him, you know, I shouldn't say it, I'm going to say something, I don't, I probably shouldn't say. Anyway, I am, uh, I am very willing to let the American public judge my physical mental phyl...my physical as well as my mental fil... fitness.[40]

According to Biden at a speech in Michigan on September 9, 2020, Trump somehow caused a rise in the cost of "prescription jugs".[41]

At an interview with Chris Wallace, the following occurred:[42]

Wallace: Mr. Vice President, thank you, thanks for your time, please come back in less than thirteen years, sir.

Biden: Alright Chuck, thank you very much.

Wallace: Alright. It's Chris, but anyway—

Biden: Oh Chris — I just did Chris— no no, I just did Chuck. I'd tell you what man, these are back-to-back. Anyway—

At the final presidential debate between Trump and Biden, the latter said at one point:[43]

Abraham Lincoln here is one of the most racist presidents we've had in modern history.

He also referred to the Proud Boys as the "Poor Boys".[43]

Biden has referred to Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff as "Kamala's wife".[44]

At a Pennsylvania campaign event on October 30, 2020, Biden mumbled a bizarre short string of gibberish.[45]

At a campaign event in Flint, Michigan, Biden said:[46]

Donald Trump thinks health care is a privilege, Barack and I think it’s a right to have badakathcare (sic).

Biden has referred to himself as "Finnegan Biden's grandmom".[47] He has also called Donald Trump "Donald care".[48]

Biden has erroneously used the terms Social Security and Medicare interchangeably.[49]

At a parking lot "rally" in mid-December 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia, Biden mispronounced Jon Ossoff's name, saying: "Honk for your next United States senator, Jon Orsoff!"[50]
