Johann Strauss (October 25, 1825 , Vienna - June 3, 1899, Vienna) was an Austrian composer known for his waltzes (specially The Blue Danube), polkas and marches.
Strauss is also known as Johann Strauss II (in German: Johann Baptist Strauß ) or Johann Strauss the Younger, as he was the son of Johann Strauss I, himself a composer, and brother of Josef Strauss and Eduard Strauss, who were also composers (The Strauss family).

Among his most famous works are the polkas Annen (1852), Tritsch-Tratsch (1858), Excursion Train (1864), Thunder & Lightning (1868), Tik Tak (1874), and the waltzes, Morning Papers (1864), By the beautiful blue Danube (1867), Tales from the Vienna Woods (1868), Wine, Woman & Song (1869), Vienna Blood (1873), Fruhlingsstimmen Voices of Spring (1883) and the Emperor (1889). His best known operettas are Die Fledermaus (The Bat) (1874), A Night in Venice (1883) and The Gypsy Baron (1885). [1]
