John C. Willke
John C. Willke is founder and President of the International Right To Life Federation, a pro-life organization supporting conservative Christian ideology. He is also co-founder of a pro-life educational trust, Life Issues Institute.
During Mitt Romney's run for the Republican Presidential nomination in October 2007, his campaign issued a statement announcing Willke's endorsement of the then-Governor of Massachusetts: "Dr. Willke is a leading voice within the pro-life community", the announcement said, "and will be an important surrogate for Governor Romney's pro-life and pro-family agenda."
A medical doctor, Willke is a prominent proponent of the theory that the trauma of rape temporarily disables a woman's reproductive apparatus, rendering pregnancies through rape exceedingly rare. In August 2012, when elements of the Republican Party including Mr Romney's 2012 Presidential campaign attempted to oust the candidate for the US Senate from Missouri, Todd Akin, for stating this view, Willke swiftly came to his defence.
