John David Dingell, Jr. (born July 8, 1926) is the Democratic U.S. Representative for Michigan's 15th congressional district, which includes Monroe County, parts of Washtenaw County and Wayne County, and the southwest suburbs of Detroit. Taking the seat that his father held before him, Dingell is the longest serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the third longest serving Congressman ever.
Dingell has voted with a majority of his Democratic colleagues 98.2% of the time during the current Congress. [1] He voted against authorizing military force in Iraq and has stated he is not against Hezbollah. [2] He supports liberals on education, energy, the environment, and government-run health care. Some of Dingell's stances are conservative, he strongly opposes gun control and received a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association, and voted to ban partial birth abortion.
In August 2009, Dingell compared opponents of Universal Health Care to the Ku Klux Klan. [3]
