  • Jonah (prophet), the Minor prophet after whom the Biblical book is named.
  • From the prophet, a term, especially common among sailors, used for a person who brings bad luck to those around him. Historically, persons aboard ships who were considered to be jonahs were often thrown overboard or marooned.
