Joseph Nicolosi is the founder of NARTH. Nicolosi distinguishes between gay-identified homosexual persons and non-gay homosexual persons.[1] The term "gay" generally means homosexual and determined to remain that way.

Generally, advocates of homosexuality insist that being homosexual is a matter of "orientation", which they regard as immutable. Whether one is born with same-sex desires, or these desires develop in early childhood is immaterial to their viewpoint.

They regard any attempt to curb, reduce, or eliminate same-sex attraction as doomed to failure; therefore, they oppose reparative therapy, even for adults who seek it for themselves.
