Steven Karl Oliver, known as Karl Oliver (born March 24, 1963), is a funeral director in his native Winona, Mississippi who is a Republican state representative for District 46 in Carroll, Grenada, Leflore, Montgomry, and Webster counties in the north central portion of his state.[1]

Oliver graduated from Winona High School and Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia in Tate County, with an associate of arts degree in applied science. He is the president and director of Oliver Funeral Home in Winona. He is a former coroner for Montgomery County.[2]

In the 2015 primaries, Oliver defeated two intra-party rivals, Shed Hill Hunger, IV, and James Matthew Bennett, for the District 46 House seat. The incumbent Republican representative, Bobby Howell, did not seek reelection.[3]  In the November 3 general election, Oliver defeated the Democrat Ken Strachen, a former mayor of North Carrollton, Mississippi, 5,139 votes (56.9 percent) to 3,893 (43.1 percent).[4] 

Oliver serves on these House committees: (1) Agriculture, (2)  Corrections, (3) Drug Policy, (4) Forestry, (5) Military Affairs, and (6) Public Property.[2] In 2016, Representative Oliver voted to prohibit dismemberment abortions in Mississippi and co-sponsored the measure to expand exemptions for compulsory school vaccinations. He voted to grant civil and criminal immunity to those reporting what they believe are instances of terrorism. He supported legislation to permit churches to have designated personnel with firearms. He voted to guarantee protections for religious beliefs and matters of moral conscience. In 2017, he backed the legislation which authorizes additional methods of execution in Mississippi and co-sponsored the measure to classify the killing of first responders as first-degree murder.[5]
