Kedar Joshi (born December 31, 1979, in Mumbai) is an Indian philosopher. His philosophical works include the NSTP (Non – Spatial Thinking Process) Theory and the UQV (Ultimate Questioner’s Vanity) Theory. Joshi has named his philosophy superultramodern. He was also the founder of Superultramodern Scientific Institution in Cambridge, England.

NSTP (Non – Spatial Thinking Process) Theory

In its philosophical attempt to explain quantum non-locality, the NSTP theory introduces a metaphysics that is both semi-idealistic and semi-dualistic. The idealistic framework, explaining quantum non-locality, represents idea of superhuman intelligence responsible for the empirical order in the universe, e.g. gravity, quantum non-locality, etc. This idea of non-spatial superhuman intelligence closely resembles Berkeley’s God. Also, the superhuman intelligence is a supernatural representation of the intelligent design of the (material) universe. The theory further conjectures a possibility of a realistic framework, the framework in which the phenomena like quantum non-locality, the phenomena which no spatial mechanical framework can supposedly explain, do not exist. The inclusion of this (mere) possibility ultimately makes the idealistic framework semi-idealistic and the dualistic framework semi-dualistic.

UQV (Ultimate Questioner’s Vanity) Theory

The UQV theory is a (philosophy of mind) idealistic and (metaphysical) semi-solipsistic theory which contends that the sole reason behind the existence of the material universe is the vanity of its creator, the vanity materialized through 'the creator asking the created an apparently unanswerable ultimate question about the nature of the creator’s existence'. The material universe solely contains the non-spatial existence of the author of the theory. The theory is idealistic since it denies the reality of space and it is (metaphysical) semi-solipsistic since only two minds, viz. the creator and the created, exist. The creator is then supposed to be the ultimate questioner whose existential and intellectual vanity is the reason why the universe exists. The grounds for the theory are the NSTP (Non – Spatial Thinking Process) theory and Vedic/Indian astrology. The UQV theory maintains that the nature of the birth horoscope of its author provides grounds for solipsism, and, on the basis of the idea of superhuman mind in the NSTP theory, it further conjectures the existence of the ultimate Being, the ultimate questioner, whose precise existential nature is the seemingly unanswerable ultimate question to be answered.

Superultramodern

Joshi coined the word superultramodern, meaning above/beyond/next to "ultramodern", in 2005 in his book Superultramodern Science and Philosophy.

Quotes

  • The best thing about the world is that it has a mysterious structure and the worst thing is that it has a grievous structure.
  • The world exists to let Man philosophize.
  • How miserable a solipsist is! It is rather senseless for him to even assert his belief in solipsism, for, on the one hand, if his belief is false it is like committing intellectual suicide, and, on the other hand, if his belief is true it is an act of intellectual insanity.
  • The world is a contradiction, the universe a paradox.
  • Truth is orphan without matter, and matter is impotent without truth.
  • Existence is mystery's masterpiece.
  • I am not really interested in changing the world; I am interested in changing the universe.
  • God would be the strangest thing to exist.
  • Religions, themselves, are (intellectual) blasphemies.
  • Philosophy, in principle, could be the best mathematics.
  • History is orphan and future impotent.
  • Nature, by its very nature, is very brutal and unequal. However, Man has somehow managed to transform the nature of its brutality and inequality.
  • Ask a true scientist a very profound question on his science, and he will be silent. Ask a true religious person a very simple question on his religion, and he will be frenzied.
  • In the world of unfathomable misery, I'm lucky to have a chance to be a solipsist.
  • The time has come for the greatest revolution of all times.
  • The worst mockery God can make of a moralist is that He compels him to be a solipsist.
  • I have far more reasons to rather disbelieve that a man besides me suffers when he cries, yet I have far more sentiments, than those great reasons, to instead weep for his, far less likely, sufferings.
  • Painful life is brutal and painless life is superficial.
  • Though I am irritated with the realization of my own pain, I am profoundly distressed with the suspicion of that of the other - for though I may find a number of physical ways to end my irritation I find not even a single certain way to overcome my suspicion.
  • I - a philosopher - live in the cage of flesh and blood.
  • Pain is a poison; pleasure an intoxicant.
  • Passion is the soul of youth.
  • Solitude is unquenched ego.
  • I am 95% a theist and 5% an atheist; thus ultimately I am an agnostic.
  • An atheist is as religious as a theist.
  • My existence is such that "I" do not really exist. At the end of understanding so much I understand that I know nothing. I suffer for being surrounded by intense suffering and yet I'm deeply suspicious if first of all there is indeed any consciousness except me. I strive to find the artist who might have fathered this great universal art but feel myself to be too feeble to accomplish this seemingly unattainable mission. Yet I have every respect for life, and it is this sheer respect that makes me live.
  • The universe is the consequence of the ultimate questioner's vanity.
  • Life exists to be a mystery.
  • The noblest act I can perform is that I sacrifice my lifelong happiness as a tribute to the unfathomable universal suffering that ever exists.
  • The world is nothing but a profoundest bloody fatalistic non-spatial computational game played by God – the ultimate questioner – with a human – me – for the sake of asking the ultimate philosophical question about the nature of the questioner’s existence, quenching His existential vanity.
  • In the midst of excitement, grief, joy, and solitude, I remind myself every moment that the sole mission of my life is to find "the ultimate questioner" - that unimaginable who has put me in this madness to answer an unanswerable question.
