DJ Kool Herc (real name Clive Campbell, born 1955) is a Jamaican-American DJ and MC, who along with Afrika Bambaataa created hip-hop music in The Bronx in the early 1970s. Although he never released a record, as the inventor of hip-hop he is an influential figure in modern music and media, and is praised by high-profile musicians such as Grandmaster Flash and DJ Shadow.
