Lactation (verb: to lactate) is the process of secreting or producing milk. The vast majority of female mammals lactate after pregnancy to feed their young.
Lactate may also mean a salt or ester of lactic acid; in this context it's used in the lactate dehydrogenase, a human, animal and vegetal enzyme.
