Levi Strauss

Levi Strauss (1829-1902) was the creator of blue jeans. He was born in what is now Germany and traveled to San Francisco in 1850 at the same time as the Gold Rush. He originally wanted to sell tents and wagon covers to those who had come looking for gold, but upon finding that there was insufficient demand for these items, he converted his canvas material into a new type of pants - blue jeans.
