Lewis Cass

Lewis Cass (October 9, 1782 – June 17, 1866) was a politician and officer in the United States Army. He served as territorial governor of Michigan, Secretary of War and Secretary of State. He fought in the War of 1812. He ran for president in 1848, but narrowly lost to Zachary Taylor.
