Live Earth
Live Earth was a series of concerts organized by Kevin Wall and Al Gore featuring live popular music. They took place on July 7, 2007 in New York and nine other cities worldwide. Artists participating in Live Earth include Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Akon, Bon Jovi, Metallica, The Police, Dave Matthews Band, Garth Brooks, and John Legend. Concerts took place on every continent, including Antarctica (the band Nunatak performed at the Rothera Research Station).
The venues hosting Live Earth concerts were the Coca-Cola Dome, Giants Stadium, Copacabana Beach, Rothera Research Station, Makuhari Messe, Tō-ji, Oriental Pearl Tower, Aussie Stadium, Wembley Stadium, HSH Nordbank Arena, and the National Mall of the United States.
The point of the concerts was to convince people of the claim that there is a "climate crisis" and to "motivate corporations and political leaders to enact decisive measures to combat [it]." [1]
Michelle Malkin reported on the Live Earth concerts. PETA demanded that Live Earth organizers there take meat off the menu. A campaigner said "There’s no such thing as a meat eating environmentalist."[2]
Steven Milloy at Fox News says, "European governments and companies expect that global warming regulation will give them a competitive advantage over U.S. businesses." [3]
