Lois G. Lerner is the former Director of the Exempt Organizations Division at the United States Internal Revenue Service. Since 2013 she has been under a cloud following allegations she abused and exceeded her lawful authority and targeted conservative groups, either denying them tax-exempt status outright or delaying that status until they could no longer take effective part in the 2012 Presidential Election and other federal elections that year.
