Lovett Fort-Whiteman was an American communist activist and a senior official with the CPUSA[1] who was born in Dallas, Texas, but died as a slave in a Soviet gulag.
He was captured in 1937 during the Great Purges in the Soviet Union,[2] and sentenced to hard labor in the gulag in the gold fields at Kolyma, Siberia.[3] He died there in 1939 of overwork and malnutrition.
