A great charter issued in AD 1215, which among other things, limited the power of the English king and guaranteed rights to the nobles.

It was a founding stone for greater liberty to come in the next nearly 800 years in many countries around the world, where people could not be imprisoned without a charge (habeas corpus), though this has seen a decline in the War on Terror, where suspected terrorists can be held for years without a charge.
