Melinda French Gates is the former Microsoft manager who married Bill Gates. Reportedly a Catholic while Bill Gates is a self-described atheist, Melinda Gates became influential in the Gates Foundation around 2001 and exercised considerable control over its grant decisions between 2002 and 2006. During that period the Gates Foundation stopped giving unrestricted money to domestic abortion groups.

The Gates Foundation restructured in 2006, ending daily control by Melinda Gates. In January 2007, it began giving to abortion groups again.[1]
